The rare earth contents of well water, soil, crops and air, as well as the blood of local residents.in rare earth ore area of Xunwu County in Jiangxi Province are significantly higher than that.in control area. Exposing to such levels of rare earth contents, there were no significant effects.on the results of most physiological and biochemical indexes. However, the results in part of.indexes showed that there were some positive or negative effects on the cardiovascular.function, blood calcium and blood sugar. The results of physical growth and development,.intelligence and immunology examination of children in rare earth exposure area indicates.that exposure to rare earth elements had negative effects on health. The matched case-control.study suggests that the incidence of leukemia may relate to rare earth elements..2. The spraying operators exposure to agriculture-use rare earth for short time may significantly.increase the rare earth contents in blood and induce some physiological and biochemical.instant changes. These changes were in normal range..3. Lanthanum chloride and cerium chloride at certain concentrations may inhibit the growth of.HL-60 and NB4 leukemic cells. Two different effects of cerium chloride on the growth of T.lymphocyte progenitors were observed. Lower concentrations of cerium chloride induced.promoting effects, but higher concentrations induced inhibitory effects and promoted the.leukemic cells to apoptosis.
