This research project is for study spiral dynamics and spiral turbulence. The project has both theoretical value and application impact. From basic research point of view, how to describe a spatiotemperal chaos system is a new challenge for nonlinear scientists. The study of transitions from ordered spiral pattern to spiral turbulence is a point of break through in this field. From application point of view, recent experiments from cardiologists confirms that certain heart diseases is due to the spiral breakup in the electrocadiac single in heart. Studying the general route of spiral breakup may give the cardiologist new hints to prevent and control heart diseases. During the last year, our laboratory has make news progress in this field of research. Including systematically study of the rules of spiral tip movement; discovering a new method of controlling spiral waves; and discover the stochastic resonance of spiral waves.
