A venom gland cDNA library of Chinese scorpion Buthus martensii Karsch was built by ourselves through the technique of molecular biology, and more than 40 new toxin genes were obtained from the library, which. are vital source to develop novel medicines with our own intellectual asset. At present, some of above new genes have been expressed by the designed expression vectors, and structure and function of these corresponding products were studied and indentified. The research results indicated that the recombinant scorpion peptide BmKCT could specifically blocked Cl- channel to repress the reproduction of glioma cells, recombinant BmKAEP and BmKIM were blockers of Na+ channel with the function of anti-epilepsy since they reduced release of stimulant neurotransmitter glutamic acid before the nerve synapse through influencing the opening of Na+ channle, in addition, BmKIM also had the function of anti-arrhythmia and abirritate. All results from this project has laid a strong foundation for theory and application research of anti-cancer, anti-epilepsy, anti-arrhythmia and analgesia with scorpion toxins. Until now, there are 13 SCI papers among 17 published research papers.
