Neutrino physics is an important composition of particle physics. It is also a key role in cosmic rays, astrophysics, dark matter, etc. For a long time, the neutrino has been one of frontiers and hot spots in fundamental research. On March 8 this year, the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment declared a discovery of the 3rd mode of neutrino oscillation and has drawn broad attentions from the world. The discovery is a significant contribution to neutrino physics by China. It will boost in our country the basic researches in neutrino physics as well as in relevant fields. It is a great opportunity for education and training of graduate students, which will not only meet requirements of development in particle physics in China, but also benefit research fields such as dark matter, astrophysics, and so on. Shandong University, together with Tsinghua University and Nankai University, will organize a summer school in neutrino physics in 2013. The summer school will be held on Weihai campus of Shandong University and will last for 2 weeks. We will invite scientists active in research to give courses both in theoretical and experimental neutrino physics as well as in related experimental techniques. In addition, we will also arrange some lectures in relevant research frontiers. Such a summer school will provide graduate students a good chance in study and a platform for communication and cooperation among universities in China.
中微子是粒子物理的重要组成部分,与宇宙线、天体物理、暗物质等研究领域密切相关,是基础研究的前沿和热点之一。大亚湾反应堆中微子实验于今年3月8日宣布发现了中微子的第三种振荡,在国际上引起广泛关注,是我国对中微子物理发展的一个重大贡献,对我国进一步开展中微子及相关基础科学研究有着重要的促进作用和深远影响。以中微子物理为契机,加强相关领域研究生的培养,不但可以满足我国粒子物理未来发展的需要,也有利于暗物质、天体物理等研究领域的发展。山东大学联合清华大学与南开大学,计划于2013年在山东大学威海分校举办为期2周的中微子暑期学校,将邀请科研一线的专家进行中微子相关理论和实验的授课,同时组织相关研究领域前沿的学术讲座。通过该暑期学校的举办,我们期望一方面可以提供研究生的学习机会,另一方面也可以加强高校之间的合作与交流。
7月20至8月4日,由山东大学、南开大学和清华大学三家单位主办的 “粒子物理暑期学校(Summer School in Particle Physics)”在威海校区举办。暑期学校召集人王萌、高原宁、喻纯旭教授以及粒子物理与原子核物理研究所老师参加活动。来自山东大学、清华大学、南开大学、中科院高能物理研究所的50余名粒子物理专业研究生参加了暑期学校。
