Biological nitrogen removal from wastewater and the prevention of eutraphication of water body are the most important issues in the field of modern wastewater treatment, they are also very urgent tasks faced by the circle of water pollution control today. This project has made substantial progress in the two subjects, that is, the method of micbobial immobilization and the process of nitrogen removal. A new method for the immobilization of microbial cells was established and applied for one patent. A novel process for the nitrogen removal from wastewater was developed in which the nitrification reaction was successfully controlled at the stage of partial nitrification and then use nitrite as the electron to oxidize the ammonia to produce dinitrogen. The parameters of this process was optimized and the kinetics of anaerobic ammonia oxidation process was characterized. These achievements can provide the necessary technical parameters for further research and lay a solid foundation for the development of a short-cut and high-efficiency process for nitrogen removal from wastewater.
