In this project, alpha-type nickel hydroxide was synthesized by means of.complexation-precipitation, lectrochemical impregnation, homogeneous precipitation andchemical co-precipitation in organic solvent. The composition, structure and electrochemical performance of the samples were investigated in detail. The following important results have been obtained:.1. In the optimum preparative conditions, the α-Ni(OH)2 sample with 304mAh/g specific discharge capacity was synthesized by a omplexation-precipitation method..2. The respective effect characteristics of Zn, Mg and Co on the structure and electrochemical performance of Ni/Al-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been revealed. It is concluded.that the complex substitution of different metal ions for nickel ion is an excellent method for improving the structure and electrochemical performance of α-Ni(OH)2..3. The α-Ni(OH)2 sample with higher tapping density, larger discharge capacity and better cycle stability was prepared by an electrochemical impregnation method. It also shows good electrochemical behavior at large discharge rate and low emperature. 4. The Al-substituted alpha-nickel hydroxide with higher tapping density (1.68g/cm3) and larger.electrochemical capacity (303mAh/g) was synthesized by a chemical co-precipitation method in organic solvent. The sample exhibits the cycle-life behavior with 9.6% deterioration rate after 372 galvanostatic charge-discharge cycles. 5. It was found that high-energy ball milling (HEBM) is an effective method to improve the.electrochemical performance of β-Ni(OH)2 , however, the performance of α-Ni(OH)2 is greatly reduced by HEBM processing..A sound theoretical and technological foundation for synthesizing stable alpha-type nickel hydroxide with high electrochemical performance has been set up through the researches of this.project
