Santalum album is a semi parasitic evergreen tree in Santalaceae. The sandalwood has a broad use in craving, medicine, perfume, spice and incense. It has the name of "green gold". Development of sandal tree cultivation can get much higher economical profit than other economical trees. Development sandalwood cultivation industrial must face some basic factors such as host selection and nutrition absorption. In this program, we will study on the relationship between the development of root and haustorium of semiparasitic S. album and host plant rhizosphere pH and endogenous hormones. We will make clear how the pH value of the host rhizosphere affect on host selection and root, haustorial development. We will study on the structure of S. album root phloem, its nutrition absorption model and haustorium penetration mechanism, to investigate the development, function and mechanism of some relevant collapsed layers, gland and digitate cells. We will also detect endogenous hormones and will make certain whether the S. album transfer endogenous hormones to its host plant. Through our comprehensive research, we will make clear how the host rhizosphere pH value and endogenous hormones affect on sandal root, haustoria development and endogenous physiological mechanism and network of the sandal-host semi parasitic relationships. This will provide a theoretical basis for our sandalwood industry development which facing host screening and nutrition absorption.
