The variatoion of the subtropical anticyclone over the western Pacific (SAWP) in the middle troposphere in short and medium terms is thought to result from the anomalies of circulation pattern over Asia and the associated external forcing in this area. Under the support of this project the mechanisms of the spatial and temporal variation of the SAWP have been studed. Through data diagnosis, theoretical study and numerical experiment, our work have focused on the internaction between the dynamical processes, the internal forcing and the diabatic heating, the external forcing, as well as the impacts of this internation on the anamalies of SAWP in summer half year. Specially, we have analyzed the processes of the thermal adaptation of the atmosphere to external forcing, investigated how the circulation adjustments in mid-high latitudes and the dynamical process in high troposphere, as well as the SST anamalies in Indian Ocean and the condensation heating, work on the movements of SAWP in short-medium term. This study has come down to the nonlinear dynamical processes, such as the interaction between the air and sea, as well as between wave and circulation. Thus it is a fundamental subject in basic studies. The results shown in this study are also useful to the forcast of the SAWP.
