The high voltage system consisting of transmission lines and their supporting towers is an important lifeline engineering one. It is quite difficult to exactly compute its seismic response in the seismic design. In this project, the generally simplified model of aseicmic calculation of the transmission tower are presented and the equations of motion are derived. The shaking-table test is carried out to verify the reasonability of the proposed models. Moerover, the approach is established to estimate the damage of transmission tower system in the considerations of nonlinear and stable characteristics. A computer program compiled is used to calculate the seismic responses of high voltage transmission tower under the action of earthquake. And the limit span of lines that should be considered to be important in the seismic response of high voltage transmission tower is determined based on the analyses of earthquake responses of lots of transmission towers. The simplified method of aseicmic calculation is presented for the applicable design of transmission tower-lines coupled system.
