The synthesis and swelling characteristics of two types of water retaining agents with high performance were researched systematically on the basis of microcomposition and macrostructure design.A water retaining agent with core-shell structure and salt-tolerating,high absorbent rate were synthesized by copolymerization and two-step crosslingking of ion-nonion monomers. Another water retaining agent with interpenetrating structure were also synthesized by introduction of functional polyvinylacohol into poly(sodium acrylate)-based superabsorbent through static solution polymerization.Such kind of water retaining agent showed high water absorbency and strength.
