Fatigue is one of the most serious and most important failure modes of marine and offshore, aeronautical and automotive structures. The target of this project is to establish a modern probabilistic damage tolerance design method for offshore structures against fatigue and fracture. And the project is divided into three parts. First, to establish a new fatigue loading counting method in which the loading sequence can be taken into account, so it will be superior to the traditional rain flow counting method. Second, to establish a new probabilistic model of fatigue crack iniation and growth of offshore structures under the combination of various stochastic loading time histories including wave, wind and current, etc. Third, to establish a probabilistic damage tolerance design method for structures and take all the uncertainties into consideration such as the randomness of initial and final crack's length, crack growth ratio, etc. And a systematic procedure of reliability based inspection and maintenance of offshore structures will be established at last.
