The Late Caledonian to Early Hercynian North Qilian orogenic belt in northwestern China is an elongate tectonic unit situated between the North China plate in the north and the Qaidam plate in the south. The Early Silurian turbidite and submarine alluvial fan, the Middle to Late Silurian shallow marine to tidal flat deposits, the Early and Middle Devonian terrestrial alluvial fan in a piedmont or intermont basin and Upper Devonian lacustrine deposits are developed along the Corridor Nanshan and North Qilian. Silurian and Devonian seismites, and Devonian tempesites were firstly discovered in Hexi Corridor and North Qilian. The components of Silurian-Devonian conglomerates and sandstones and palaeocurrent derived from the Qilian orogenic belt in the south. The Silurian and Devonian periods are a translation stage for the sedimentary basins. The North Qilian orogenic belt was formed as a consequence of the arc-continent collision between the North Qilian island-arc and North China plates, and continent-continent collision between Qaidam plate and North China plate during the period from the late Caledonian to Early Hercynian stages. This process formed syn-orogenic foreland basins along the Hexi Corridor and the Corridor Nanshan and pig-back basins in North Qilian. The foreland basin experienced the transition from flysch stage to molasse stage during the Silurian and Devonian time. In conclusion, the North Qilian orogenic belt experienced different evolutionary stages from Caledonian to Early Hercynian period: rift basin stage (Sinian to Early Cambrian), mature ocean basin stage (Middle and Late Cambrian to Early Ordovician), active continental margin stage (Middle to Late Ordovician) and foreland basin stage (Silurian to Early and Middle Devonian).

运用动力沉积学的思想,将造山带区域地层学、沉积学、构造地质学和大地构造学等方法相结合,对北祁连--走廊盆--山结合带志留系--泥盆系进行动力沉积学分析。确定北祁连--晚加里东--早海西期同造山盆地的性质,从沉积记录入手揭示北祁连造山带的造山过程及其沉积响应、盆--山作用及其耦合关系。总结完善造山带盆山结合带动力沉积学的理论和方法
