通过实地调查与形态学、孢粉学及生化学（仍在乾地中）的观察、对比与分析，初步为中国牡丹部分野生种及栽培品种进行了正本清源；确立了以野生种作为牡丹栽培品种分类的首要依据；建立了中国牡丹栽培品种体系的分类；明确了部分坚生种与主要品种群之间的新缘关系。
