We have obtained a series of achievements at the international frontier in the research of rapid X-ray variability, e.g. quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) of black hole and neutron star X-ray binaries through the analysis of the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE): 1) discovery of.the movement of kHz QPO in frequency of tens of hertz in a short time scale.of less than 1 second, 2) discovery of anticorrelations between the kHz.QPO frequency and the X-ray flux on a certain time scales corresponding to a certain variability components, and the proposed explanation that these are the evidence for the role of the radiative stress and drag on the accretion flow at the inner disk edge, and the radiative stress and drag is a new disk-truncation mechanism other than the neutron star.magnetosphere and the general relativistic effect, 3) first time proposal of using the correlation between the kHz QPO frequency and the X-ray flux on a certain time scale of a variability component to test the origin of the variability component, e.g disk or neutron star, 4) discover of the one-to-one correspondance of neutron star and black hole spectral and timing states during the initial rise of an outburst of black hole and neutron star soft X-ray transients, etc.
利用美国X射线时变探索者卫星(RXTE)对中子星和黑洞X射线双星观测的高时间分辨数据,分析和研究中子星和黑洞X射线双星中的快速准周期振荡现象,寻找广义相对论预言的在致密天体附近存在临界稳定轨道的证据,并研究中子星和黑洞X射线双星中千赫兹准周期振荡的物理机制,以及中子星和黑洞X射线双星的高能辐射机制。
