The bloom in e-tailing and logistics supply chain is the focal point both in global socioeconomic development and academic research. Nevertheless, less is known about the spatial coupling logic and environmental impacts of e-tailing and supply chain activities. By intensive geographical analyses and urban studies, this project aims to fill this gap to examine how the e-tailing-driven supply chain strategies spatially and environmentally reorganize urban logistics spaces. The city of Shenzhen is taken as the primary study case. New open-source data sets, including POI data, are incorporated to support conventional official survey data as the data basement of this study. Meanwhile, qualitative methods (in-depth interview and case study), geographic visualization, quantitative econometric models and scenario simulation approaches are mixed here to meet different research objectives and requirements. Regarding the effects at the region-city level, one empirical study aims to investigate the e-tailing-catalyzed logistics sprawl and its environmental impacts at the metropolitan level. Another empirical study focuses on measuring the space-time accessibility changes and external costs of last-mile delivery depots at the urban-neighborhood scale. The logistics land demands are to be forecasted to adapt the rise of e-tailing supply chain. In addition, this study attempts to build a supply chain-based simulation models for city logistics policies. The implications of this project firstly lies in establishing a theory framework which integrates e-tailng, supply chain activities, space-environment effects at the city level. The proposed supply-chain based also is going to be further applied in urban space studies. Both the theoretical and methodological progress will promote the development of the geography of logistics and distribution, and facilitate shaping sustainable city logistics policy framework.
